Eligibility and Qualifications for Government School Teaching Jobs
Becoming a government teacher involves meeting strict education standards, which differ depending on the grade you'll teach and even the province. Here’s how it all breaks down:
Primary School Teachers (BPS 14 and Above)
- Current Pay Scale: Now BPS 14 (previously BPS 9 for this role).
- Minimum Education: Traditionally, candidates needed FA or FSc qualifications along with a professional teaching course (sometimes called 'city' teaching). However, the bar is much higher today.
- Typical Profiles: Thanks to fierce competition, you’ll now find candidates with B.Ed, M.Ed—even PhDs—applying for primary school roles.
- Associate Degree in Education (ADE): Some provinces accept the ADE as a valid teaching qualification for primary jobs, but Punjab does not.
- Key Skills: Strong subject command is a must. Specialists are in demand even at the primary level.
Quick Reference for Primary Teaching Eligibility:
- Punjab: Minimum Bachelor’s (plus B.Ed, in many cases); no ADE accepted.
- Other Provinces: ADE may be accepted, but check current policies.
Required Subject Degrees (Examples):
Islamiat: MA Islamiat
Urdu: MA Urdu
English: MA English
Math: MSc Mathematics
